TRADITIONAL ACTIVITIES  - High School

1. Science Fair and Project Competition

Science Fair is organized with the contributions of the grades 9, 10 and 11 of Çağ College in mid-May.  The outcomes of student research projects, experiments are exhibited.Tarsus, Adana, Yenice High and Middle School students are invited to the Fair.The students'projects are evaulated in a number of categories and the winners are presented a Certificate Achievement and a medal. Award Ceremony is held at the theatre.

 

2.Mathematics Competition

Mathematics competition is open to all students and organized by the Mathematics Club and Mathematics Department in the second term.The competition includes one round. It is held at the theatre and the winners are awarded with a Certicate of Achievement and  presents.

 

3. Science and Mathematics Olympics

Students in the Olympics groups take part in the competitions organized by universities and The scientific and Tecnological Research Council of Turkey, TÜBİTAK.

 

4.Spring Festival and  Charity Fete

Spring Festival takes place in school campus in April. Alumni, parents, Çağ middle school students and teachers are invited. Students compete with each other in  rope pulling, sack racing etc. There is a football match between teachers and students. Our students perform popular music.

Grade 6 and grade 11 organize and carry out charities for raising money for LÖSEV ( Foundation for Children with Leukemia ) and the sister village school called Akgedik Primary School. Stalls are prepared and food&drink is sold to make money.

 

5. New Year Party

Usually held before New Year's Day. Students with the help of their class teachers create a cheerful settings in the classrooms, hallways and school garden. There is a huge variety of stalls and all the food and drink brought by the teachers and students and they are free.

Social Assistance and Solidarity Club members are responsible for the stall for LÖSEV and they sell magnets, handmade products of LÖSEV.

There are also concerts by our students and karaoke performances.

 

6. Career Day

The career day is whether organized by the University of Çağ or by the contribution of the Çağ Alumni. It is organized to assist students in selecting a career that suits their interest and ability and skills. Our students find out the answers to the questions in their minds about the occupations they are interested in. Guest speakers  from a range of careers and the alumni  are invited to Career Day to share their experiences and success stories in 40 minutes. There is an ,extra, question and answer section if needed. It is held once a year.

 

7. "I Know My Book '' Competition

In celebration of Library Week the school librarian conducts the competition by the assistance of the Turkish  Language and Literature teachers.

The competition is held at the theatre in April.  The competition's goal is to inspire the students to bring recognition to books. The competition is open to all students in grades 9 through 10. The winners who come in top 4 in the competition are given books.

 

8. General Knowledge Competition

Teams of three-four students in grades 9,10 and 11 participate in the competition. It is aimed to improve on their knowledge base in Geography, History and Turkish Language and Literature and general knowledge. It takes places in one round. The winners are awarded with a Certificate of Achievement and  given presents.

 

9. School Trips

To cities and historical places in Turkey and around Tarsus are organized each year. There are also academic trips to factories and manufacturing centers.

 

10. Remembrance Days

Remembrance days of Atatürk and 18 March Çanakkale Martyrs are the major performances of our school. It is organized and carried out by the Turkish Language and Literature Department and take place in the theatre. Plays , oratorios  are performed and documentaries related to remembrance days are watched.  The rehearsal process is carried out according to a rehearsal schedule and it is taken very seriously.

 

11. Poetry Day

Poetry day is organized and carried out by the Turkish and Literature teachers. It is put on to promote poetry as part of every day life. The theme for the poetry day is changed every year. It is open to all students in grades 9 through 11.

 

12. The Voice  Çağ  ( in English and German )

High school students participate in this fun-oriented competition. The competition aims to encourage and enable all kinds of music enjoyed by the students. It is open to grades 9  through 11.

 

13. Village  School  Aid Visits   

This activity has been going on since 1998. Our main aim is to provide financial help to promote the development of the school and provide the essential needs of the pupils such as clothing, shoes, books, stationary and toys

 

14.  Visit of Elderly People's Home

Our students visit Elderly People's Home once a year in March. They drink tea together and give the gifts they bought for them and present a mini concert in order to please them.

 

15.  Visit Schools for Students with Disabilities

This activity is organized on 3rd of December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities.The aim is to encourage a better understanding of people affected by a disability at our school.The disabled students  in Tarsus are given presents, books, stationary and toys one by one by our students. Our students and the students with disabilities play games together.

 

16. No Uniform Day

On the last Friday of each month students are permitted to wear clothes other than school uniforms.

 

17.  School Publications

'' Özel Çağ Koleji Dergisi '' is published with the assistance of  the Turkish Language and Literature teachers, students and the school librarian. The magazine is published once a year. Our main aim is to inform the students, alumni, parents and the official  institutions in our region regarding Çağ College, about our actvities, projects, events, trips, fairs, social work projects, success stories of the alumni etc.

 

18. Bulletins

Bulletins are prepared to inform parents and students on subjects that are determined in line with current needs  and demands by the Guidance and Counselling Service 4-5 times each academic year.

 

19. Seminars and  Conferences

These seminars, conferences ensure that the school remains a lively learning center on a wide range of subjects related to the needs of the students, parents and the academic staff. They are mainly organized by the Guidance and Counseling Department and sometimes by experts in the field.
